Introduction

Jianshui Zhujia Garden is located in the middle section of Jianxin Street in Jianshui Ancient City of Yunnan Province. It is a home built by Zhu Xiqing brothers in the late Qing Dynasty. Covering an area of more than 20,000 square meters, including a construction area of more than 5,000 square meters, the main building is a “纵四横三” layout, which is typical layout of Jianshui. A combination of traditional residential buildings with three wing-rooms,three halls and a large patio with four small patios. The layout of the building is in order, and there are 42 courtyards and 214 houses. The entire building is steeply ridged, carved and painted, beautiful and elegant. The courtyard hall is well-arranged, and the spatial landscape is rich and varied, forming a “maze” building complex. At present, it has become a collection of accommodation, viewing, tourism and entertainment. There are certain scales and grades, and there are tasteful and rich cultural attractions.

Location history

The ancient city of Jianshui is located 220 kilometers south of Kunming, Yunnan Province. It is called the 步头(Butou), also known as 巴甸(Badian). The Nanzhao regime built the Huili City here during the in the reign (around 810) in the Tang Dynasty. Huili is an ancient proverb, which means the sea. Chinese translation is Jianshui. In the Yuan Dynasty, Jianshui Department was established. It belongs to Lin’an (Lin’an governance was in Tonghai), and Supervision Division is located from Jian’an, to Guangxi, Yuanjiang, etc., and governs Lin’an, Guangxi (now Qianxi County), Yuanjiang and other roads. In the Ming Dynasty, it was still called Jianshui Department. Lin’an government moved to Jianshui, and during the Qing Emperor Qianlong, it was renamed Jianshui County. In the first year of the Republic of China, the Jianshui county was rebuilt as Lin’an County, and the next year it was renamed Jianshui County.
